  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter
  • Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter

Management tools

Management tools can be installed on the following Windows Servers:

  • Windows Server 2016 Standard or Datacenter (Exchange Server CU3 or later).
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter
  • Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter
  • 64-bit edition of Windows 10
  • 64-bit edition of Windows 8.1

Install Exchange Mailbox server 2016 prerequisites

Install required Windows components

Run PowerShell as administrator. Run the following command to install the required Windows components. Restart is not needed.

Install .NET Framework

Find the latest Exchange Server CU and download the appropriate .NET Framework version. At the moment of writing the article, the latest version is CU16. In this case, it will be .NET Framework 4.8. Install Unified Communications Managed API 4.0 Runtime

Download Unified Communications Managed API 4.0 Runtime. Right-click the UcmaRuntimeSetup.exe and choose run as administrator. Install the Unified Communications Managed API 4.0 Runtime on the Exchange Server.

Install Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2013

Download Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2013 64-bit. Right-click the vcredist_x64.exe and choose run as administrator. Follow the installation wizard to complete.

Exchange Server 2016 prerequisites are installed for the Mailbox server. You are ready to prepare Active Directory and domains for Exchange Server. After that, install the Exchange Mailbox server role.

Install Exchange Edge Transport server 2016 prerequisites

If you like to install an Exchange Edge Transport server, follow the prerequisites installation.

Install required Windows components
